IIMS Canada Branch Committee and Officers

The Canadian branch of IIMS operates under the direction of a Regional Director and is managed by a Chairman and supporting committee.

The aim of the IIMS Canada Branch is to promote the practice of marine surveying throughout Canada and to support its members locally. Furthermore it seeks to develop and enhance the competency and knowledge of its members through the provision of education, training and seminars, events and networking opportunities.

Ed has over 30 years experience in domestic and international shipping in marine technical and commercial management.  He is an accredited Marine Surveyor practicing in areas of:

  • Marine Warranty Surveying
  • Heavy Lift Cargo
  • Hull and Machinery
  • Vessel & Marine Asset Valuations

Jason offers 30 years in commercial ship engine repairs and high speed ferry construction.  His seagoing experience includes acting Chief of Engineer on Superyachts Worldwide. As a practising Marine Surveyor, his areas of focus include:

  • Small craft & Superyacht surveys
  • Mechanical Surveys
  • Damage Surveys
  • ISM & ISPS Internal Auditing

Scott is a Master Mariner with over 40 years in the marine industry.  He is an accredited Marine Surveyor both internationally and domestically, first being appointed in 1992.  His areas of focus include:

  • Regulatory Compliance
  • Safety Management Systems
  • Fishing Vessel Surveys
Sarah White, Treasurer, IIMS Canada

Sarah has in depth marine experience and academic qualifications, including holding a Master of Science degree in Marine Surveying.  Her experiences include vessel troubleshooting, dock operations, repair and maintenance, construction and restoration and the training of marine service technicians.  Her areas of focus include:

  • Small Craft & Superyacht Surveys
  • Float Homes, Docks and Boathouse Surveys
  • Damage Investigations
  • Tonnage (small craft) Government of Canada Appointed

Frans immigrated from the Netherlands and lives in Nova Scotia with his spouse, 2 dogs and 2 cats since 2009.  In 2012 Frans became a Marine Surveyor in Canada after a Seagoing career of 20+ years with international shipping companies as a Dual Officer.  His areas of focus include:

  • Marine Incident Investigations

Al has over 26 years in marine equipment evaluations on the west coast in addition to his Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanical Certification.  Al’s surveying activities date back to 1997, starting his own Marine Surveying company in 2009.  His areas of focus include:

  • Commercial Vessels & Barges
  • Small & Large Pleasurecraft
  • Insurance Surveys
  • Condition & Valuation Surveys
